  • Will Your Contractor’s Insurance Weather the Storm?

Construction is a very large industry for small and large business. There is always something that needs building or fixing whether it be homes, commercial sites, roads, nuclear sites, dams, and the list goes on. Besides the normal risks of working construction seasonal storms like ice, wind and floods can wreak havoc on ongoing construction. Being prepared on site and with insurance for contractors is very important. If you have laptops and cell phones car chargers are a must and a portable generator can make weathering the storm more tolerable. Be sure you have flashlights with extra batteries stored in Ziploc bags. Take pictures of the construction site and all completed work before the storm and seal them in a bag also. Check liability insurance rates way before you start construction as coverage for each type of storm damage can be covered differently. If you live in an area that does not have bad storms or is known for weather disasters, cheap liability insurance will work well for you, but if you are building in places like the Florida coast where storms are known to hit it is better to have a higher deductible and higher coverage and payout than to have a lower deductible and smaller payout. The construction industry is a consistent line of work found everywhere, but don’t let bad weather put an end to your business.
